Entry for RM contest

“No greater love hath man than this, to lay down one’s own life for a friend”. This is the words that an angel of God said to Fenix at the approach of his death. Before he met Arianne, he had never expected to die in this way. Abandoned as a small kitten, he didn’t expect to even live this long. He had already lost 8 out of his 9 lives by the time his mother abandoned him. It was just his luck as he was a black cat. Things went from bad to worse when one day he was trying to catch some fish in an open drain and fell in. A couple of girls saw this and felt sorry for him but only one was brave enough to wade in and save him from a murky and completely disgusting death.
Since then Fenix’s life had turned around. For the first time, he had someone to love and protect him. Unfortunately, summer doesn’t last forever, and come winter one day she was gone. She was always sickly, and literally died of a broken heart when her boyfriend married her best friend. Poor Fenix was heartbroken, but as he looked at her lifeless body remembered something his mother told him. “Cats are lucky that they have 9 lives. You can ask a friend to spare you one if you ever run out,”and with that, she had left him to fend for himself.
Now normally, this little trick doesn’t work inter-species. Fortunately, God was watching and decided to reward Fenix’s great love for his owner by allowing it to work. However, since Fenix had made the decision to give up his own life, he was no longer bonded to his earthly form. Seeing that Arianne still needed constant attention, Fenix pleaded the angel to be her guardian. “This is not possible,” he explained, “as my Master has plans her, and also for you.” Neither Fenix nor Arianne would ever forget what came next. “From this day forwards Fenix, you shall be her guardian.”
Till today, Fenix still remains Arianne’s guardian, and with her condition improving, she has volunteered to help out in the childrens ward in the hospital. Her appearance as a neko never fails to amuse the kids. Strange…must be some weird side effect to having being saved by a cat. She occasionally tells them stories of Fenix, her little black cat, while a winged figure watches over her with the strangely familiar eyes of her pet.
